Back in full strength – This was the Design Month Graz 2022

The Design Month Graz 2022 reached a successful close on June 12. As the proud organizer, Creative Industries Styria is delighted with its immense success. More than 100 events – from exhibitions and workshops to lectures and presentations – took place within 35 days. The participation of 128 program and project partners along with guests from 15 nations highlighted just how wide the range of design can be and made the internationality of the network tangible.

In 2022, the Design Month Graz once again showed the creative potential of Styria with its top and tightly packed event program. With a lot of international participation plus a powerful presence in public spaces, the design festival clearly showed why Graz is a City of Design – with an impact far beyond the city limits.

Eberhard Schrempf, General Manager of Creative Industries Styria, looks back on the past weeks positively: ”In line with the program focus ‘Green Transition,’ many of the events on the program calendar addressed the role the creative industries ought to play in the Europewide transformation process. The program pointed to exactly where we are headed.”

The exhibition “Around Autofiction,” for example, featured contributions by the Creative Cities on the question of mobility, while the focus of the European Creative Industries Summit held in Graz was on “Great Green Creative Industries”. In the city center, 37 shops with a wide range of projects and products joined “Design in the City”. And from “Design Everyday” and “ZweckZwei – Shift Circular Design” at the Minoritenzentrum Graz to “The Chairman” and “Taste the Ortwein” at designforum Steiermark, all exhibitions were well attended. The latter is still open until June 26th, 2022. The new format “Design-Clinic” was created as a lowthreshold service offered by the design community in order to make design more tangible for everyone. Interested laypeople or professionals were welcome to visit the clinic for a free initial consultation on their design problems.

Mihaela Ion este manager cultural cu o experienţă de peste 17 ani în cadrul industriei creative şi culturale româneşti şi cu un doctorat în istorie. Este co-fondatoare a Revistei Atelierul (Asociaţia Atelierul de Creaţie) şi a proiectelor generate de această comunitate internaţională: "Creative Night Talks", "Noaptea albă a creatorilor şi designerilor de produs". Este evaluatoare independentă pentru diferiţi cofinanţatori publici. Curatoriază expoziţii în diferite galerii de artă şi spaţii de consum de artă, din România şi străinătate.
