Munich Jewellery Week, the most significant global event for contemporary jewelry, welcomes The Value of Nothing, an exhibition that redefines what makes jewellery truly precious. As part of Handwerk & Design Fair, this exhibition invites visitors to explore contemporary jewelry beyond material worth, where value emerges from the immaterial: the idea, intention, and artistic vision that give depth to each piece.
Curated by HOOROON (Eleonora Varotto) and Arte Design Venezia (Lisa Balasso), The Value of Nothing demonstrates how contemporary jewelry has evolved into a medium of inquiry that dismantles traditional hierarchies, revealing absence, subtraction, and the invisible as powerful creative forces. Jewelry becomes a vehicle for questioning our assumptions about what we consider valuable.
The exhibition brings together seventeen international artists whose diverse practices span from traditional metalsmithing to experimental techniques, from nature-inspired systems to cultural mythology, from sustainable practices to conceptual explorations. United by their commitment to depth over decoration, these artists prove that true preciousness resides not in materials, but in creative research, intention, and artistic vision.

THE CONCEPT
At its core, the show explores a paradox, that meaning often emerges from what remains unseen. The artists embrace subtraction as creative language, revealing absence as generative potential. Emptiness becomes architecture, silence transforms into resonance, and the invisible acquires presence.
„Nothing” emerges not as void but as possibility, a conceptual space where ideas crystallize, intention becomes form, and creativity transcends physical matter. The Value of Nothing invites us to recalibrate our understanding of preciousness, suggesting that true value often exists in the mind: in the thought that sparks creation and in the quiet power of what is deliberately left unspoken.
