Martine Scholten – pictor/ilustrator  – Tine Creates

Nicoleta Stoian – artist fimo – Nicomade

Gaby Galamaga – artist creator – Kreativ Love

Andreea Badragan – artist ceramist – GloryBox

Gaby Galamaga – artist creator – Kreativ Love

Martine Scholten – pictor/ilustrator  – Tine Creates

And here we are! Five articles later, at the end of the „How to create a brand” series. I have to say, I started this series with the idea that at the end, we will know more about the challenges Romanian artists face. I dreamed of, and expected, questions from readers as the series progressed. I envisioned the sixth article as a collection of questions and answers shedding a light on what should be the next step and how to better support artists and the handmade world.

One of the people I listen with great pleasure is Gary Vaynerchuk. He is a business man turned speaker and coach who says it like it is. With every single speech, video and post he emphasizes the relevance of business etiquette, of the way we interact with other people and more importantly the relationship with oneself. He is very aware of the fact that not everybody likes what he says, and he knows that those are the people not yet ready to assume responsibility for their lives, to evolve and take risks. And in all honesty, it makes no difference who likes you or doesn’t as long as you are comfortable in your own skin and continue to follow your dreams.

Plenty of times, Gary talks from the middle of the crowd, and most of the times his advice is to hustle. At the Brussels meetup a young lady told him how upon graduating she realized she wanted to work in a different field. His advice was to e-mail the person in charge from all the companies in the field she would like to work at. It takes only one positive answer!

Over 40 years old, Gary talks rather often about how flawed the perception of the society is in what concerns age and „the expiry date”. It is never too late! Due to life experience, the chances of creating a stable company are actually greater at 40 than at 20.

I introduced you to the words of Simon Sinek in the first article of this series. Both him and and Gary Vaynerchuk talk about how important it is to work with people, about how important our humanity is in succeeding in life, and what it actually means to succeed.

The important thing is, that no matter what we do, no matter the career we chose, we work together. We create, we learn, we’re inspired, we bring energy, we offer wake up calls, and in all of this we work together. This is the reason why the lack of reactions to the last five articles has left me confused and disappointed.

So I take advantage of this moment to challenge you to think of what the lack of reactions means. Ask yourself what you can do (no matter how small) to encourage the collaboration between artists in Romania and not only. Some of the most amazing inventions/creations are the result of collaborations between totally different fields.
I invite you to write to the artists you like and to tell them you like them and what about their creations appeals to you. I invite you to lend a hand to a confused artist/creator/entrepreneur trying to start something. I invite you to communicate in a new and different way. I dare you not to complain. I challenge you that when you feel the whole world is against you, to stop and realize how many opportunities of creating your life you actually have. I challenge you to work together. I challenge you to look inside yourself but also to the outside world.

I wish you success in anything you endeavor and I can’t wait to see your creations!

What advice would you give to you, the one from the beginning?

„Never give up and give yourself time to evolve. It’s a learning process and on the way you will find what works best for you. It’s doesn’t need to be perfect from the beginning.”
Martine Scholten – painter/illustrator – Tine Creates

Any words of wisdom in regard to networking when at the beginning?

„Be honest. Don’t take things too serious and don’t take it personal.”
Laura Baban – writer

Any words of wisdom in regard to networking when at the beginning?

„For me, the most important  (no matter the level you are at) is to be serious and to respect your promises. If something unplanned shows up and you find yourself unable to stick to your word, made sure you communicate that. If people know they can count on you, they will definitely contact you again.”
Nicoleta Stoian – fimo artist – Nicomade

Any words of wisdom in regard to networking when at the beginning?

„Appreciate the work of other artists and write about them. Keep in constant contact with the field you are most interested in and continuously experiment through your work. Take part in international exhibitions. Be part of the workshops colleagues organize. Learn new techniques. Promote the people who make art without any particular purpose other than to share their work. And love what you do.”
Gaby Galamaga – handmade artist – Kreativ Love

What advice would you give to you, the one from the beginning?

„Do not forget that is not just about creativity. Learn as much as you can, maintain your integrity, pay atention to details, be profesionist, communicative, focused, truly stubborn and very consequent. „
Andreea Badragan – ceramic artist – GloryBox

What advice would you give to you, the one from the beginning?

„I would tell Laura that it will be OK, that it is not a mistake to open her heart.”
Laura Baban – writer

What advice would you give to you, the one from the beginning?

„To have trusted her own power. To have worked more. And not to discard her dreams, because they come to us in order to help us develop and know ourselves. Any dream can be accomplished but only if we make it.”
Gaby Galamaga – handmade artist – Kreativ Love

Any words of wisdom in regard to networking when at the beginning?

„Tell people that you know about what you do. Make sure that your social media is in line with each other if it comes to info and profile photo. Get some business cards to hand out to family and friend who can recommend you to people and then hand out a card. Maybe go to workshops and meet new people with the same interests.”
Martine Scholten – painter/illustrator – Tine Creates
